I have the same problem, but found a solution which works for my com but not sure why... tried the same solution on my m8's com and doesnt work so id say its a 50/50 chance it will work for you.

Basically as long as i have something downloading with bit-torrent in the background i will connect fine... think using bit-torrent opens up the right ports for my com to allow a proper connection... it sounds weird but its the only way my com will connect.

I had a problem with authentication failed and found out that my routers firewall was blocking the ports to the game. I disabled my firewall on my router and was then able to authenticate, I do not have the ports I opened on hand, but googled and found 1380,8046, and 10622. I am not able to confirm these ports yet, but more information about opening ports is located here: http://portforward.com/routers.htm.
