Rotofugi Shoalin Monk

Rotofugi is one of the urban toy stores in Chicago. I’m here for Lollapalooza in Chicago and wanted to find a vinyl toy store. Nikki and I took an adventure out in Chi to visit this store. We read good reviews and were determined to check it out. We’ve both become fans of vinyl toys or urban toys. We’ve been picking up blind box toys at a local store, Foot Soldiers, in downtown Miami. We ventured off to the Kidrobot on south beach but haven’t been back. With all that said when we walked into Rotofugi, we were totally blown away. I’ve checked out all the toys on kidrobot.com and myplasticheart.com but haven’t found any they I’ve totally been like “I want that!” I’ve customized some Munnys and picked up some miniatures but none of the designer figures have cried out to me. I decided Thursday that I found one that I was sort of fond of and thought It’d be pretty cool and worth $40. It was called Di Di from House of Liu. First thing I noticed when we walked into Rotofugi was the Di Di and Mei Mei. I was happy to see it in person and was glad with my choice. What really caught my attention was another toy that was all painted in copper called Shaolin Monk. They also had Di Di & Mei Mei in the same copper style. I totally realized that I wanted Shaolin Monk but wasn’t sure if I’d hand over $80 for it. I did a couple walks around the store and realized still nothing called out my name. Once I really looked at Shaolin Monk I realized that it said 48 made. This explained the high cost and made it even more appealing to me.

In the end I decided that I was going to buy it and call it my birthday gift to myself. He was one of a kind and worth it. I can’t wait to get back and place him in our living room. Once we got back to the hotel from the toy store I looked him up and turns out the artist who designed him, Veggiesomething, lives in Chicago. Adds something special to the figure. Not to mention turns out that the one I got is ONLY sold in Rotofugi and truly will never forget the journey it was to make it to the store. I have my 21st birthday poster of Lolla and now my 23rd birthday Urban Toy.

They have a regular Shaolin Monk figure that isn’t so limited for sale on certain websites. I’ll most likely pick him up as well. Also entered into a drawing that if I’m chosen I get a free Di Di & Mei Mei figures. Eventually I might order the copper Di Di & Mei Mei.

glad to hear that you picked up the rotofugi exclusive shaolin monk! i was really happy with the way that it turned out. and i believe each piece was hand painted by someone at the factory so no two pieces are alike.

hope you had a great time in chicago and thank you for the support!

    Thanks VGS!

I ended up going back to Rotofugi and picking up the exclusive Di Di. Most likely will be ordering Mei Mei within the week. Also the DIY Mei Mei & Di Di.

I’m a bit disappointed everywhere I’ve check the Student & Disciple are sold out. Those two and baby Mei Mei are the only two I’m missing of the House of Liu that I know of.
