This week at E3 Portfilio.com had an interview with EA’s CEO, John Riccitiello. Apparently what went down was a conversation about EA’s two big major projects in the works now. Both being MMO’s. We know of Warhammer and many of us consider this the major threat for Activision Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. Many big parts of the game have been taken out and many speculate it no longer could be a contender for taking over the massive multiplayer online giant, WoW.
The next big project Riccitiello speaks about is a project with LucasArts & BioWare, Knights of the Old Republic MMO. If EA doesn’t de-thrown WoW with Warhammer its got one last final blow with KOTOR MMO. This is HUGE because BioWare’s KOTOR series is one of the most well known RPG too date. This is big news for any MMO player. With Age of Conan having a strong presence in the MMO world and with the upcoming Warhammer & KOTOR MMO it seems like players now have options instead of just going straight to WoW. The pressure is finally being put on WoW and if the new expansion The Wraith of the Lich King doesn’t hit a home run they might have some users deactivating.
Will they ever release Knights of the Old Republic III now? We all know how popular MMO’s have become but is this the final end to KOTOR series? It is clear that transforming this series into an MMO makes sense but is it what fans desire? or is this EA just trying to juice the genre for all its got left?
