Today I planned to connect my uncles TVs. I left to the beach around 11:30ish I believe. I ended up not leaving till around 6:30. Sometimes the easiest task could turn out much more difficult. I’ll say the first half of the day was spent moving around old TVs. You take for granted the new LCDs weight and size. Another thing that is unbelievableĀ how quickly technology changes. My uncles main TV in his living room was a Pioneer Elite Projection TV. The TV was purchased 1998 and probably one the first sets that supported digital NTSC tuner. Now we have 1080p sets and almost every single TV out there is 16:9 instead of 4:3. Can’t believe he gave away the set but at same time the color wheel was really messed up.
Since my uncle is all about the Sony brand just like many people out there not to mention Hispanic population. I tried to convince him that Samsung had newer sets out and not to mention a lot cheaper but people are loyal to the Sony brand name. He ended up getting two 52″ XBR4s.
The probably wasn’t installing the TVs because I use to do that all the time at Circuit City. The main issue was hooking up his surround system to the TVs. Also lets not forget to mention my uncle is completely repelled by technology and wants it all done so he could use everything in the simplest manner. Both of these things present a large problem when the person who use to live with him was someone who gave me the drive for technology and had a serious interest in sound and music. Most people and myself have only really dealt with A/V Receivers and hooking everything up too them and then to the TV. Now if you’re a real audiophile and have money this isn’t how its done all the time. The way my uncle had the living room setup was with a Digital Processor Pre-Amp and a McIntosh 6 channel Amp. Let me not forget to mention the beautiful NHT Towers, center, and rear speakers. After hours of moving things around, disconnecting, & connecting of things everything got done. The thing that really took it out of me and took forever was everything working the way he wanted it too. He wanted one remote to control everything and make them turn on and off with one button. In the end we sort of accomplished what I went over for. I truly believe a good universal remote is what he needs. Trying to control a Pre-Amp, Cable Box, TV, DVD, & VCR with a basic remote from Atlantic Broadband.
That ended up taking up all of my day off. Too be honest I had a good time doing it. Not to mention glad I could help my uncle. He’s done so much for me in my life and for my mother and father. He’s in bad shape considering he got a liver transplant amount a month ago.
