I wrote an article about the NEED for split screen games. Now to tackle Co-op play. One of my favorite games as a child on the Sega Genesis was Golden Ax. Tons of memories playing that with my cousin and using all sorts magic in the game. Not to mention it allowed for two player co-op. It was a classic and now they are re-making it, terrible! I was all for the re-make till I just recently learned that they’ve removed any sort of Co-op play to concentrate on combat mechanics. You would think with all the delays the game has had it would have introduced Co-op and was a main reason for the delays. It has been commented that the sequel will support Co-op play but the first title will not. My question is are they even going to be able to sell enough copies of the first to even make a sequel that will give us the old feel of Golden Ax back? I’ll tell you what. I was extremely excited about the re-make and now learning that it will not support Co-op play I don’t care how good the combat schematics are, I will NOT buy it. I will wait for God of War 3 to come out which is even rumored to have online play this time around.
Next on the chopping block is Too Human. I’ve been following this game for quite awhile now and for obvious reasons, multi player options. The game was supposed to have four player co-op online and was hoping for offline as well. Now SK is saying that four player co-op is possible but too chaotic and will be removed! Are you kidding me?! Let me be the judge of that and allow the user to try it out and enjoy or hate it. The videos and screen shots look great and sure it seems a bit crazy but never under estimate the will for other people to play with each other. Hopefully they will decide to keep four player co-op and allow us to chose if its practical or not.
Now for the winners of Co-op, hopefully. Resistance 2 is said to support 8 player co-op and have selectable classes online. The only fault and problem that might arise from this is that there is no balancing of classes when you play a game. In other words if you chose the Warrior class you could end up with 8 Warriors and not a balance of difference classes. You’d think with such an advanced game they’d be able to figure that out?! Now for the thing that totally blew me away with the game details, 60 person online matches. Seems like they don’t mind some chaotic game play.
I am probably one of the few people out there who has not played Gears of War. I was surprised to hear that Gears of War also does not support four player co-op but does have two person co-op in the first. I’m hoping that they do implement four person split screen offline but have not looked too deep into it. Also I want to say they did announce four player co-op online. Don’t quote me on that though.
