Four person split screen with Bots

Alright I’m a huge fan of gaming. My biggest issue with the latest generation of consoles is the lack of offline play. There have been huge debates of having online friends to play games and if they are ‘real’ friends. Who cares?! What counts is when you have friends over and want to play four person split screen offline. Some games support it but not many. We all know games like Halo 3 is the major game that most people play that does this well. Also COD4 is on par with this support. Now lets introduce something else into the picture. Why is Mario Kart, Perfect Dark Zero, & 007 Nightfire the main games we, Nikki & I, play? Well its simple really, Split Screen with BOTS! The fact that if I want to play with my girlfriend or group of friends who comes over we can all play against each other with the computer as our enemy. Honestly the biggest upset too me is the fact that Unreal Tournament 3, UT3, does not support split screen! One of the most beautiful games I’ve played with some serious FPS action BUT what kills it is the fact that I can’t play against Nikki. I kid you not I’m going to set up a TV in our bedroom and buy another PS3 & copy of UT3 just to play with her. Thats how much we enjoy the game and want to play with each other.

Old games such as Killzone, Red Faction, XII, Timesplitter 2, UT2, & 007 Nightfire. Have tried to find a larger list but would love to know more since I own all the systems. It’s amazing how so many of these games are old but the replay value of it is still so high.

I truly wish that developers come to understand that graphics and innovation is great but we have that now. Lets get some game play abilities that we’ve all come to love in the past games. Most people will agree one of the most epic games is 007 for N64. Why? Well because it introduced four person split screen done WELL! We now have the resources to add a decent challenge with AI why not add bots?!

The only FPS game that supports these features offline is Perfect Dark I believe in the supposed ‘Next’ Generation era of consoles. I’m looking forward to see how Haze will turn out for the Playstation 3. As of now it seems too be nothing special BUT if it includes split screen with customizable bots offline it could easily make up for it and be one of our major games in rotation when people come over. Other games like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Timesplitter 4, & Gears of War 2 I pray support bots with split screen offline.

FPS aside it’s a great disappointment that some other genres of games is affected by this. The major one that comes to my head is Motostorm. How can you release a racing game that doesn’t allow split screen to race against someone else offline?! Rumor has is that Motostorm: Pacific Rift will support split screen.

I believe if you create a decent game with outstanding multiplayer support you are still Gold. Games that are decent games but great multiplayer include: Super Smash Brothers, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart, Madden, Tetris, DDR, etc…

If you guys have any suggestions of games I haven’t listed that support these features or any great party games let me know!

Geist for the GameCube supports 4 players offline and bots. Unfortunately, the multiplayer isn’t as fun as TimeSplitters Future Perfect, which is still my favorite offline shooter.

Split screen with bots - not enough of these games! Just found a sleeper hit that allows it: Lord of the Rings Conquest. Nice competitive splitscreen with bots.

I have been searching everywhere for a 4 player split screen with bots (pref FPS) - nothing!
This is shocking! I reckon this is why the Wii is doing so much better than these online devotees.
Red Faction 2 was another good one on PS2 - 4 player, but not as nice as Red Faction 1.
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun on Game Cube had 4 player split screen with custom bots.
Also there was a star wars game that allowed 4 player wave split screen, we were in vehicles - Rogue Squadron maybe?
Thanks for the LOTR suggestion I am looking into it now.
And thanks for writing this - It is on my mind everytime I buy a game.
    Cheers
