If there is something I really enjoy its smoking hookah. It’s something I use to do quite often when I lived in Tampa. It was a great way to bring together and hang out. Back in Tampa it was something lots of people would go out and pay money constantly and figured why spend money on something that I could buy myself and save people some money (or make money for myself). Eventually I found some great sites online which sold hookahs. Don’t ask me which ones because I don’t even remember where I ordered from the first time. It cost around $80 for everything when I bought my first one. Greatest investment I made that year. Tons of people would want to come over and it made me socialize. At the time I was new to Tampa and hadn’t gotten out of my bubble. Made all sorts of new friends and best part was that it was such a great conversation tool. You could have people come over with some wine or beer and just talk over some hookah.
For the person who has never smoked hookah before and worried about the health concerns its not the best thing for you but its not something you do everyday (at least not most people). How does it work? Well first of all its not the easiest thing to setup but not difficult by any means but once its set up all you have to do is inhale like as if you were sucking a drink from a straw. You can hold it in your lungs for awhile or even in your mouth to absorb the flavor. Just let out as if you were exhaling from a deep breathe. Thats it!
There are some basic rules you should know if you decide to go out and try it out. Never light a cigarette with the coal on top of the hookah. If the hookah has multiple hoses cover the tip so anyone else who wants to smoke doesn’t take in air. Don’t smoke cigarettes if you don’t see other people smoking or if their is no ash tray, just because people smoke hookah doesn’t mean they smoke cigarettes. Don’t hog the hookah their will be plenty for everyone. If you goto an authentic Middle Eastern hookah lounge be on best behavior and don’t as if you were a teenager at club, be respectful. Keep in mind some cultures believe the LEFT hand is unclean, so pass the hose with your RIGHT. Be extremely careful about getting up and running into a hose, the hookah can fall. Keep in mind if you are not over 18 don’t expect to be let into a hookah bar.
Their are many different flavors of shisha to try. Start of with something basic such as strawberry, melon, apple, etc.. Do not start off with something intense like mint, lemon, rose, etc… Keep in mind that shisha can be mixed together to create some great blends. I recommend using wine in the chamber instead of water to create another layer of flavor. Do not put wine or anything besides water without asking the owner of the hookah. It is not something easy to clean if left sitting in wine or any other substance.
One last thing, you do not get ‘high’ from smoking hookah. You will get a little light headed if you smoke too much. I believe it has something to do with the brain not getting enough oxygen but not 100% positive. Smoking hookah is not illegal as long as you are using regular flavored shisha. Do not assume that because a person has a hookah that they smoke any other substance.
